Job Description

The Director of Intellectual Property (IP) will oversee all aspects of our client's intellectual property portfolio and influence and support a culture of innovation, with the goal of improving the services we offer and adding value for our customers. Our IP portfolio is comprised of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. You will work with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate FTO risk. You will provide guidance to internal stakeholders on IP matters and will work with the scientific and technical teams to ensure that our patent portfolio continues to protect our proprietary technologies. You will develop and execute strategies to protect the our client's IP assets, manage IP litigation and oversee licensing agreements. Additionally, the Director of IP will stay up to date with changes in IP law and regulations, leading and advising our client's on how to adapt its IP strategies accordingly.

  • Develop and implement strategies for protecting our client's intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
  • Working with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate FTO risk.
  • Manage our client's patent and trademark portfolios, including drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent and trademark
  • Review and work with key stakeholders (CSO, Scientific and Technical leaders, Business Development, Finance) to identify, agree and direct future areas of innovation and technical improvements aligned with our client's business model and company goals.
  • Staying current on developments in IP Law and regulations, advising on how to adapt our client's strategies Operating as the Company's IP expert, educating all key stakeholders on the importance of protecting and respecting intellectual property rights.
  • Work closely with the technical team to identify potential IP from innovation and technology development programmes taking responsibility for securing this through the generation, submission, and management of the patent process.
  • Provide IP support to external clients and Business Upskilling teams along the way on the basics of IP development, capture and exploitation.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the evaluation of new innovations and technical developments to identify inventions and innovations eligible for patent protection.
  • Negotiate and draft IP-related agreements, including licenses, assignments, and nondisclosure agreements.
  • Develop and manage the IP budget, including forecasting expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Director of Intellectual Property (IP) should have:

    • A minimum of 15 years in biopharmaceutical environment, experience with new technical developments in the drug development sector and patent process
    • PhD in relevant scientific discipline
    • Deep knowledge of target to lead drug development processes
    • Business partnering, and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement IP strategies that align with business
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non- legal stakeholders.
    • Proven track record of managing IP portfolios and enforcing IP
    • Commitment to ethical conduct and respect for intellectual property
