Job Description

  • Translate documents and communications accurately between Japanese and English.
  • Manage correspondence and communication in both Japanese and English.
  • Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proofread English texts with a focus on linguistic nuance and precision
  • Create and manage English language content for internal use
  • Provide cultural and linguistic insights related to Japanese
  • Evaluate both machine-generated and human translation data
  • Collect and curate data for use in linguistic research and development
  • Distinguish and communicate the unique features of various English dialects
  • Analyse English texts for semantic clarity, grammatical accuracy, and stylistic quality

The Successful Applicant

A successful Interim Japanese Specialist should have:

  • MA degree in linguistics, language or related field.
  • Has at least 2 years of professional translation experience
  • Deep understanding of Japanese language and cultural nuances
  • Familiarity with various English dialects and their distinctions
  • Fluent in American English, both written and spoken
  • Strong analytical skills in morphology, syntax, grammar, and spelling
  • Additional fluency in German, French, or Spanish is highly desirable
  • Experience teaching English as a second language is a plus
  • Background in language quality assurance and localisation is beneficial
